OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPOSTING BIN / UNIT

1.   Two numbers of broad Compartments in Plastic Composting Bin / Unit of 330 liter capacity each.

2.   Please  prepare  base layer with  coconut  fiber  and gravel/sand  with  cow-dung  powder  apx.  1-1.5 inch at bottom.

3.   Please kept 300 worms in each Bin / Unit.

4.   Please Arrangements for protecting the Bin / Unit from mouse, red ants and other pests etc.

5.   Thick wet cloth or wet sack piece for covering the waste

6.   Please use surgical hand gloves for handling waste and manure

7.   Please maintain Moisture Content of waste 40-55% and Temperature -20-30ºC

8.   Chop the waste to size less that 5 cm before placing in the Bin / Unit.

9.   Thickness of waste layer in the Plastic Composting Bin / Unit should not exceed 15cm

10. Use one Compartment of Bin for the first 15 days and then use the second Compartment after filling the              first.

11. Sprinkle cow-dung powder along with waste

12. Keep the Bin / Unit covered with wet sack or cloth piece.

13. Sprinkle water over the cover sack/cloth to maintain a moisture of 50-55%

14. Avoid over sprinkling of water and stagnation of liquid at the bottom of the Bin / Unit.

15. Bin / Unit should not be exposed to direct sun light or rainfall

16. Prevent introduction of excessive hot, sour and oily substances and also bones, meat & fiber materials.

17. Compost taken out should not be dried under sunlight

18. Keep the Unit in shaded area.

19. Pour the sand in the composting unit and make the layer up to 1½”.

20. Spray water and put worms if they are available.

21. Once the bed of sand is ready with water inside the unit, it is ready to use for converting Food waster / Kitchen Waste / Garden Waste into organic compost.

22. Put the daily Food waste / Kitchen Waste / Garden Waste duly cut into very small pieces and spray little water.

23. Connect the nipple provided at the bottom of the Bin / Unit with a bottle to collect the latchet.

24. Close the Lid and keep the bin in the shaded area.

25. It takes approx. 25 days to convert Food waste / Kitchen Waste / Garden Waste into organic manure when worms are used.

26. Without worms, it takes approx. 40 to 45 days to convert Food waste / Kitchen Waste / Garden Waste into organic compost.

27. Collection of wash out from the Bin / Unit in the final stages of composting for vermi-wash.

28. Renew the base layer annually
